Government Electrical Standards Laboratory, is a division of The Electrical Inspectorate Department which was created in 1961. It is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and is engaged in the Calibration and Testing of Electrical Equipment from various Industries, Laboratories[Inserted: in], Insulation Tests and others. Government Electrical Standards Laboratory offers Electro-Technical Calibration services for measuring DC Voltage and Current, AC Voltage and Current, Resistance, Frequency, DC Resistance, 3 Phase AC Power, Active Power, Reactive Power, Apparent Power, AC Power and Energy. Besides, Government Electrical Standards Laboratory also practices Calibration Testing on HV & EHV Installations, Rotating Sub-Standard Meters (RSS), Electronic Sub-Standard Meters (ESS), Analog and Digital Energy Meters, Power Protection Measuring Relays, Measuring Instruments such as Voltmeter, Ammeter, Wattmeter, Multimeter, etc. Government Electrical Standards Laboratory has been accredited with ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 in their Electro-Technical discipline.
