About Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Kolkata

Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) was established as a leading crime investigation laboratory in 1957 to serve and support criminal investigation for the Ministry of Home Affairs (GoI). Situated in Park Circus Kolkata, its areas of expertise include Alcohol Analysis, Crime Scenes, Documents, Fire Investigation, Hairs and Fibres, Serology, Anthropology, Narcotics, DNA, Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, Fingerprints. It was also recognized as a Centre for Excellence in biological sciences by the Ministry of Home Affairs (GoI). The Centre for Excellence Division of CFSL undertakes R&D in thrust areas of Biomedical Sciences, develop and upgrade existing technologies in the field of criminal investigation as well as development and maintenance of databases and training programs. It has a reputation in the area of criminal investigation and research due to its committed efforts to carry out Research & Development in the field of Forensic Biology and to conduct & train manpower & disseminate awareness about forensic science.
