Controllerate of Quality Assurance (Metals) is the department of the Directorate General Quality Assurance that looks into the manufacturing and quality maintenance of the metals used in the making of arms and ammunition. Situated in Parganas, West Bengal, it is the only manufacturer of copper crush gauges that are used for proof gum ammunition. Besides, it offers mechanical and NDT testing facilities. Chemical analysis of the various metals and alloys employed in the manufacturing of ammunition is performed in its laboratory. The laboratory is also well equipped to carry out corrosion tests for the surface treated components of the ammunition. The laboratory also provides tests to analyze the mechanical properties of the metal materials like weld electrodes. It is well known for its range of non-destructive detection tests to check metals and their alloys.
