About Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (Indian Pharmacopoeia Laboratory)
Indian Pharmacopoeia commission is a body functioning under the ministry of health and family welfare, its registered office is located in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. It is quintessentially responsible for setting standards for Indian drugs and continuously updating these standards. It functions by publishing documents which add new monographs and update the existing ones in form of Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) with the purpose of improving the quality of the drugs and medicine prevailing in India. IP’s basically are benchmarks for purity, identity and strength. Another major purpose served by this commission is provide reference substances which pertain to the IP’s, is to test any article in order to identify or measure its level of purity. To provide references it has set up a laboratory which is equipped to do chemical and microbiological analysis. The candidate references undergo testing to find out whether or not they are fit for the purpose of serving as an official reference. Its lab is also capable of containerizing these references to future purposes.
