Institute for Design of Electrical Measuring Instruments abbreviated as IDEMI is an organisation setup by government of India to realize the potential of instrument industry and establishing quality control mechanisms in this industry. This organization carries out testing of electrical, electronic, process control systems, sensors, transducers and electrically operated domestic appliances. It also offers masses and volumes, pressure, electrical and temperature calibration services which ensures precision and leaves no rooms for discrepancy between the set standard and the product being tested. IDEMI has mainly three departments of laboratories undertaking different functions. The design and development lab has gained much popularity because within this, products are developed in consultation with both, the customers and the manufacturers. Therefore the product developed incorporated the specifications of both the parties. This laboratory has been recognised by department of scientific and industrial research, government of India. Another department is the electrical laboratory which undertakes electric calibration and testing. Electrical products are subjected to standards like BIS, BS, NEMA AND IEC in this department. These labs are equipped to conduct energy audit, harmonic measurement, ingress protection testing and environmental testing. The process control instrument department consists of pressure, temperature and flow laboratories. It undertakes testing and calibration pressure, temperature, vacuum, force and flow. These labs adhere to the standards like BS, NBS, DIN and IEC.
