About National River Water Quality Laboratory Central Water Commission
Central Water Commission is a premier Technical Organization of India in the field of Water Resources and is presently functioning as an attached office of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India.
In consultation with the State Governments involved, the Commission is entrusted with the overall responsibility of initiating, organizing and continuing systems for the control, preservation and use of water resources throughout the nation for flood control, irrigation, navigation, drinking water supply and water development purposes. It also conducts investigations, designs and implements any such systems as necessary.
A Chairman, with the status of Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government of India, heads the Central Water Commission CWC. The Commission's work is split between three branches: Designs and Research (D&R) Wing, River Management (RM) Wing and Water Planning and Projects (WP&P) Wing. Each wing shall be placed under the responsibility of a full-time Member with the status of Ex-Officio Additional Secretary to the Government of India, consisting of a number of organizations responsible for the assignment of tasks and duties within their assigned functional scope.
There are 19 organisations based in New Delhi headquarters and 13 organisations distributed across different places in India.
