    About Quality Assurance Laboratories, Ship Building Centre

    Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh comes under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The Quality Assurance Laboratories established in the Ship Building Centre provides an aid to the maintenance of the quality of ships being constructed. The laboratories provide reliable testing of the metals and alloys; paints and surface coating; water; oils and lubricants. Besides, the laboratories are designed to conduct mechanical testing of the ferrous, non-ferrous materials, weldments and austantic stainless steel. Macro and micro examination, determination of average grain size, stress corrosion cracking test, inter granular corrosion test and delta ferrite measurement are the metallography tests performed in the laboratories. Other tests to check for the mechanical properties of the materials include tensile strength test, bend test, hardness tests, flattening test and flaring test.
