Under the act APGM 1937, 22 Regional testing laboratories have been established to formulate standards and conduct physical and chemical analysis of agricultural and allied commodities. One of these labs is situated in Kochi, Kerala which specifically carries out chemical testing of honey and other honey products. Kochi lab has state of the art facilities and modern technology which makes it adept for setting standards for this particular agricultural produce. Honey and related products are tested for their moisture content, sucrose, ash, specific gravity, optical density and other contents. These laboratories are set up by directorate of market and inspection which comes under the aegis of ministry of agriculture and farmer’s welfare, therefore has great responsibility to ensure quality of agricultural produce.
