Textile committee act was passed in the year 1963, after which in 1984 textile committee as an individual body began to function under the aegis of ministry of textiles, GOI. Textile committee is primarily responsible for maintaining and ensuring the quality of textile and textile machinery for both, internal consumption as well as for export purposes. Therefore for that purpose they have established laboratories and testing facilities across India. One of their prime labs is situated Bangalore in Karnataka. It is proficient in undertaking chemical as well as mechanical tests to check the quality of textile fabrics, fibre ropes and chords, fibre filaments, garments and yarns. Textile committee has been advising government regarding textiles, setting standards, establishing standards for specifications and many other vital activities with the help of efficient regional laboratories.
